Education Cabinet Secretary nominee George Magoha has assured President Uhuru Kenyatta and education stakeholders that he will deliver on his duties with diligence as well as determination.
While appearing before the vetting team in parliament, Magoha said that he will not tolerate teachers and other persons taking advantage of schoolgirls by having affairs with them if his nomination sails through.
The former Nairobi University Vice-Chancellor said that he is committed to change the sector before his tenure ends.
He noted that he will act like a surgeon by identifying problems before solving them and leaving.
“I am a surgeon, I identify the problem then deal with it and leave. If that’s what you call mechanical then that’s fine,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
The assurance comes after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) fired 1071 teachers across the country for engaging in sexual affairs with students.
The teachers have been barred from working in any part of the country following the ban.
The commission has called upon parents and other parties to support it in the fight against sex pests in different regions.
Magoha is considered among the brains that can transform the education sector if given a chance by the vetting team.
