The former Prime Minister has repeatedly said that his journey to Canaan in the previous general election was cut short by crocodiles in River Jordan, this being a veiled reference to his inability to win the presidency.

Consequently, some leaders allied to the ruling Jubilee party have taken issue with the remarks, reading mischief in it and terming it misleading according to the holy book which states that the river had no alligators.

However, according to Weda, Odinga’s use of the animals' name has nothing to do with mischief but his Luo background where a crocodile is used to portray danger.

‘’This is common among people living near water bodies. There, when someone speaks of a crocodile, he is simply referring to danger. People should not translate it differently or as an insult,’’ said Weda who is also from the same community.

The crocodile narrative was as well recently employed by Migori Governor Okoth Obado who also hails from the Luo Nyanza region.

Speaking when he hosted Deputy President William Ruto in the county on Saturday, Obado claimed that a group of unnamed people are after his downfall, and have thrown him inside the crocodile’s mouth.

“If you pray for me, I will get out of the crocodile’s mouth,” he was quoted by the Nation.
