Mitchelle, who snubbed Mr Obama's last two trips to the country where he has strong roots, explained how she got into a fist fight with her husband to be then at their ancestral home in Siaya.

“Auma’s sky-blue VW was so old that it often needed to be pushed in order to get the engine into gear. I’d ill-advisedly bought new white sneakers to wear on the trip, and within a day, after all the pushing we did, they’d turned reddish brown, stained with the cinnamon-hued dust of Nairobi,” she writes.

She adds: "We had a fight when we disagreed on certain issues at Siaya but the trip ended up being the best ever to Africa."https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/evewoman/article/2001302912/it-was-one-to-forget-michelle-was-angry-at-obama-for-bringing-her-to-kenya

When Mr Obama visited in 2015 July during his last term as president, Mitchell was conspicuously missing. Obama was born to a Kenyan father, Barack Obama Sr.

Upon his return in 2018 July to Western Kenya in Kogelo, Obama was not accompanied by Mitchelle despite the two spending a couple of days in the neighbouring Tanzania. When Obama visited in 2015, he narrated his first trip to the country and the experience in the same old Volkswagen that belonged to his brother Auma Obama.
