Residents of Ogembo in Kisii County were left in a rude shock on Monday after a man who has never married raped his neighbour's goat to dead.
Florence Moraa, the goat's owner said she went to pick the goat from where she had tied it to graze when she found the suspect Andrew Okeyo raping the goat.
"I could not believe my eyes seeing Okeyo raping my goat. I screamed and the public arrived to witness the heinous incident. The suspect tried to escape but, he was apprehended by angry members of the public," she said.
Moraa said upon reaching near the scene where her goat was tied, they discovered that the goat was already dead.
Area assistant chief Michael Ong'ang'a said angry members of the public descended on the suspect with kicks and blows before he was rescued by Nyumba Kumi officials.
"The suspect could have been lynched were it not for the Nyumba Kumi officials who rescued him. It is shameful that the man instead of marrying he decided to rape the goat and caused its death," said Ong'ang'a.
He called on men who have attained marriage age to do so.
