37 families whom their houses were washed away 11 months ago during the Solai dam tragedy were on Thursday handed keys to their newly built houses.
They were also supplied with bedding materials - mattresses, bedsheets and blankets.
The victims will also get other household items to kick-start their livelihood.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony that was held at Nyakinyua village, Nakuru county, County's Trade Executive Raymond Komen said that they resolved at constructing the 37 houses after a survey.
The families thanked the Kenya Red Cross saying that they have been going through difficulties of paying rent yet they have no jobs.
This even as the County Government of Nakuru and the Kenya Red Cross commenced rehabilitation of boreholes in the area and will supply clean and sufficient water to individual homesteads.
Komen who represented Governor Lee Kinyanjui at the ceremony said the next phase will involve reclaiming the farms in Solai to enable the families to engage in agricultural activities.
"Once the farms are ready, the victims will be issued with planting materials and fertilizer. The County will also rehabilitate roads in the area destroyed during the tragedy," he said.
The County Executive also assured locals of the County Government of Nakuru's commitment in ensuring that the victims are fully settled to regain their lost livelihood.
Rongai sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Julius Kavita warned the victims of renting out the houses or selling household items.
