Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association chairman, Kathiani branch, Joseph Kitavi on Thursday said although there are some few bodaboda operators who are genuine, others are unscrupulous.

"Yes, teenage pregnancy is derailing our girls' education. But who are to be blamed more are the boda-boda guys," Kitavi said.

"Some are genuinely doing business but others are unscrupulous, they prey on our girls and impregnate them thus affecting their education," he added.

Kitavi said as the government calls for 100 percent transition of candidates from primary to secondary, the schools are hoping for 100 percent retention.

He said it's not easy because things like pregnancies and drug abuse have been keeping kids out of school.

However, Kitavi advised parents not to despise local day schools in their regions since they too perform and produce elites.

"These day schools you despise produce engineers, doctors, and lawyers just like the boarding ones. They are fully funded by the government and we'll be equipped, your child can pass well there," he said.

Kitavi urged parents to enroll kids who didn't make it to university in vocational training centres to acquire knowledge and skills that can earn them money.
