Speaking to the press at his Tala home on May 18, 2017, Muthama said Kavindu is no longer his wife, adding that he is not behind his campaign.

The politician said he parted ways with Kavindu in 1983.

Muthama said he had been caring about his children.

The former Machakos senator said he offered Kavindu a home since he realized that she was struggling to meet ends meet in Nairobi.

“Whatever she is engaged in now is her own private business because we are not together and I have legal documents to that effect. If she dies today, she cannot be buried in my home because even the dowry my father (late) paid to her parents was refunded,” Muthama said.

Kavindu came into the limelight when she declared her interest in the Machakos Woman Representative seat.

The firebrand politician gave other candidates a run for their money when she staged a mother of all campaigns across the county.

She, however, lost the contest despite winning the hearts of many residents in the county during the campaign period.
