Speaking in Kitale, Trans Nzoia county on Friday, Amisi declared his support for the referendum push initiated by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He was speaking at the Kitale Showground during the 50 year of service celebration of area Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) bishop Samuel Thiong'o.

The leader who hails from Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party rooted for the proposal to introduce a 7-year non-renewable one term limit for the president.

He gave the contribution in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto who is currently the main hindrance to the referendum after repeatedly opposing the proposals.

But Ruto steered away from the politicking, urging politicians to shun petty politics and await the right time for the same.

"Let’s not talk politics from January to January. Even the Bible tells us that there is time for everything,” he was quoted by the People Daily.

He added that the government he co-leads alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta is committed to delivering in line with its election promises.

"In our Big Four agenda, once implemented, manufacturing will solve the problem of unemployment, food security will address food shortages, accessible healthcare will reduce cost of medicine while housing is aimed at ensuring affordable houses for Kenyans,” the DP said.

Ruto has since made it clear that he will not support any changes on the nation's executive, proposing the introduction of the official opposition leadership.

But referendum backers also want the expansion of the executive to include the Prime Minister slot and the reintroduction of the parliamentary system of governance.
