Former Rongo Member of Parliament Ochillo Ayacko is the front-runner to clinch the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. However, with area governor Okoth Obado defying the party to support a rival candidate, the race could be far from over.

But in a twist, the governor has found himself on the receiving end over the past few days with his name adversely mentioned in connection to the murder of the student.

Politically speaking, Obado is at the lowest point of his political career with his own image 'battered', something that dims his political voice in the cosmopolitan county.

Amid claims that the governor is backing Eddy Oketch Gichuru for the seat especially after the exit of former Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno, the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) may be forced to go back to the drawing board.

When Obado is Obado, he is a political tsunami. But going into that by-election, his influence has been bruised amid allegations linking him to the murder of Sharon Otieno. And amid all this, Ochillo Ayacko is in  dreamland.
