Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo's recent remarks that he would have transformed Kiambu had he been elected for a second term in the August 8 general election has stirred a debate on his possibility of contesting for the seat in the 2022 general election.

On Wednesday, Kabogo in an interview on K24 said that he had great plans for Kiambu but residents rejected him on the ballot.

The former county boss said he would have made Kiambu a self-reliant county and an example for others if he had been given the chance to serve a second term.

“Kiambu was in my heart, by end 2022 I would have made it a realistic example,” said the flamboyant politician.

According to Peter Ngure, a political pundit, Kabogo’s statement is a clear indication that he planning a major comeback in 2022.

The analyst noted that Kabogo may even be planning to unseat Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in the next election.

Ngure argued that the former Juja MP is still active in politics and stands a big chance against Waititu in the 2022 polls.

“Kabogo is making a statement that he is still a man to watch in Kiambu politics and could make a big come back in 2022,” he said.

Ngure, however, observed that it is unlikely Kabogo will run against Waititu in 2022.

“I think he is just preparing his supporters for his next political assignment which may not necessarily be linked to Kiambu,” he said.

There have been claims that Kabogo is among the Mt Kenya politicians being fronted to deputise Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential general election.
