Footage that has stirred controversy shows the legislator calling out the officers over 'human rights violations'.

"The instructions of any person even if it's the president or the deputy president, those instructions do not include violations of human rights," the outspoken senator is heard telling the officers who listen on keenly.

The officers involved in the eviction operation were seen forcefully evicting those living in Mau, a reality that did not sit well with Murkomen.

Garissa residents have also weighed in on the footage that has introduced a new twist to the Mau eviction saga.

"I support the Elgeyo Marakwet senator for standing up for human rights. The beating of the evictees was completely wrong," Said Karim says.

"Murkomen should not be supporting people who are hell-bent on destroying our ecosystem. The should be removed from the forest," Gano Rashid says.

"While I support the eviction, I maintain that it should be done in a manner that respects human rights," Hakim Sadi says.

"That was a cheap PR stunt from Murkomen. The police are involved in a noble effort to protect our environment," Hamdi Kole says.

"The Mau issue is sadly taking a political angle. It's sad," Roba Mohamed says.
