Esther Passaris survives death narrowly as youths storm meeting with knives

Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris on Thursday morning survived an attack waged by armed youths at Tassia.

It took the intervention Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino to quell the storm after the despite was further precipitated by use of police.

While running away from the scene, she narrated, Owino arrived in time and convinced her to go back and continue with the function.

"Youths armed with knives stormed the function which I had organised through NGAAF. They flushed us out.

"While running away, Babu managed to arrive in time and quelled tension. Four people were injured," she told the media.

It is believed that rival groups differed of resource distribution from Passaris office thus leading to the scuffle.

While addressing the meeting, Owino blamed local politicians of misusing youths to fight opponents.

"It is pointless to be paid Sh100 just to execute a politician's need. We should find ways of earning a living," he said.

Passaris urged the government to increase funding to the office of Women Reps for effective service delivery.
