Those expected to vie for the slot include Deputy President William Ruto who has, however, called for calm on the issue, noting that the nation should concentrate on development for the time being.

Also likely to contest is Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who has since maintained that he will be the best to lead the nation to success upon his retirement as the 10-year leader of the lower Eastern county.

Here are the Luo leaders likely to feature in the race;

1. Raila Odinga

Luo Nyanza region is also likely to be represented in the race as has always been the case, with opposition leader Raila Odinga expected to be among the frontrunners in the contest.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) chief has, however, remained mum on the issue, with his allies, however, hinting at the same, the latest one being Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino who on Monday last week, during the funeral service of departed Migori Senator Ben Okello, urged the Mt. Kenya region to repay him the presidential debt owed to the Odinga family.

2. Evans Kidero

The former Nairobi county chief has as well expressed his interest in the royal seat, noting that he will not be seeking to recapture the post he lost to Governor Mike Sonko in the concluded poll and saying that he is eyeing a ‘bigger one’.

Speaking during a fundraiser in Rangwe, Homa Bay County on Saturday, May 5, the leader rubbished claims that he could join the race to reclaim his post in Nairobi or to succeed outgoing Homa Bay County Chief Cyprian Awiti.

3. Outgoing Nyanza Governors

With the Presidency being the only remaining options for gubernatorial retirees, the likes of Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and his Migori counterpart Okoth Obado are likely to be in the first stages of the Presidential race to retain their relevance, which is set for a decline once out of office.
