Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has now changed his tune after private operators defied his directive on free toilet services in the CBD.
The first-term county boss has asked the operators now to offer quality services to the residents and other visitors.
In a statement released to the newsroom, the governor noted that he does not have any interest in interfering with the operations of the toilets in the area.
He, instead, said that what he cares most about is the welfare of his people than anything else.
“The governor does not have any interest in the matter, but all he wants is that Nairobi residents get better service delivery, enjoy good facilities that are free from disease outbreaks,” read part of the statement released by the Governor’s office on Tuesday.
The operators had refused to adhere to the directive of the county boss arguing that it could lead to the facilities conditions becoming worse off with time. The city has around 68 public toilets serving residents and visitors from different parts. The governor’s directive had continued to elicit mixed reactions from different factions.
The operators of the facilities were totally against the idea, arguing that the governor was targeting them for his political mileage.
