Speaking during the Universal Healthcare Coverage forum in Kisumu on Thursday, the county boss hailed Uhuru's Universal Healthcare program as a very necessary project.

The Maendeleo Chap chap Party boss noted that will ho a long way in bettering healthcare in public facilities, resulting in a healthier nation.

He welcomed Uhuru's decision to entrust the role of running the project with county governments, saying that it will exclude cartels who have been hoping to hijack the initiative once returned to the central government.

"Since the advent of devolution, healthcare provision has improved tremendously. Issues are dealt with at source and health workers supervised locally. There is no way we can revert to the old system. Kenyans will not agree,” he was quoted by the Standard.

He noted that the nation has the ability to fund the project, provided that corruption which has been gobbling a good portion of public funds is wiped out.

He said that health is a primary requirement each citizen expects from his government.

“Healthcare is a basic right and no Kenyan should choose between going to the hospital and buying food. The challenge we have in our country is bad politics and our seemingly support of graft over the years, by rewarding, as a society, known thieves and inept leaders who have nothing more to offer the changing winds of our time,” added Mutua.
