While some have dismissed Thursday's visit as a public relations exercise, others such as former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo have welcomed the tour which will be Uhuru's first since his March 9 handshake with his foe-turned-ally Raila Odinga.

Reacting to a story published by a local daily on Tuesday that the Head of State will launch a Sh37 billion dam and water pipeline in Nyanza, Kabogo congratulated Uhuru and encouraged him not to relent on his transformative agenda.

In a tweet which attracted mixed reactions, the former county boss hit out at those dismissing the visit as political, saying their only focus was 2022 succession politics.

"Let’s all join the working president and shun propagandist and those locked on (20)22 debate. Congrats Mheshimiwa Rais," Kabogo tweeted.

The remarks come amidst calls for demonstrations against Uhuru's visit on grounds he allegedly killed and maimed Raila's supporters who were mainly Luos during last year's electioneering period.

The call has been made by vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna who has asked residents to give the tour a wide berth or hold protests by 'carrying coffins or images of all innocent victims of Uhuru Kenyatta's brutal and barbaric violence'.

Raila, however, has asked his supporters to turn out in huge numbers and welcome his 'brother' Uhuru who is also expected to preside over the launch of the universal health coverage pilot phase in Kisumu County.
