A team of government officers responded swiftly after we reported that a Nakuru building which hosts Gilani’s Supermarket had developed cracks that risked the lives of workers and shoppers.

Reports of the cracks emerged after a staff at the retailer tipped a Nakuru blogger of the issue.

A team of government officers led by Nakuru deputy county commissioner Herman Shambi inspected the building and gave it a clean bill of health.

The retailer assured its customers that there was no cause for alarm.

“We called in engineers from the county who have confirmed that our building is structurally sound. A thorough assessment of the premises has been conducte,” a statement  by the supermarket read.

Gilani’s said that they have all the relevant licences from government agencies on works done on its buildings.

“It has been confirmed that all is well and there is no cause for concern.  We have been in existence for 45 years and have always followed the law. We have obtained all relevant permits and approvals for any work that has been carried out,” the statement added.

The government officials thanked Kenyans for being vigilant and reporting issues in the country instead of waiting for disasters to happen.

“It is good to report anything suspicious instead of waiting for something bad to happen. It is up to agencies to confirm or deny when something is raised,” Shambi said.
