Police in Rarieda, Siaya county are holding a man accused of killing his sister-in-law and injuring his wife.

Elijah Agutu Oguti is said to have assaulted and killed Susan Awino Omollo over her plans to marry a man the suspect did not approve of.

According to area Assistant Chief Peter Odongo, the man had cautioned Awino, 25, against marrying her fiancée, terming him the wrong choice for her.

He reportedly got angry when the woman stood her ground regarding the marriage and violently reacted when he caught Awino speaking to him on phone.

The suspect is said to have beaten her up before using a blunt object to hit her, leading to her death, reports Citizen Digital.

The administrator added that the suspect also attacked his wife Eunice Agutu and left her nursing serious injuries.

The incident was also confirmed by Rarieda Sub-County Police Commander Thomas Sangut.

The police boss said that police are holding the suspect at the Aram Police Station, while his wife is receiving treatment at the Madiany Sub-County Hospital.

The body of the deceased was moved to the hospital's mortuary.
