Speaking on NTV's Sidebar show, the vocal Kikuyu lawmaker alleged that Raila is fighting Ruto due to his popularity and influence so as to weaken him politically ahead of the much anticipated 2022 polls.

The MP further argued that the former prime minister has taken advantage of the corruption purge to fight the DP.

“We know Raila has developed cold feet and wants to frustrate the DP’s presidential ambition in 2022 because he knows he (Ruto) is the next president,” he said.

Ichung'wah, however, said that Raila is fighting a losing battle, adding that DP Ruto will ascend to power in 2022.

He said that Kenyans have confidence in the DP and will overwhelmingly vote for him when the time comes.

The lawmaker at the same time asked Kenyans to ignore propaganda being peddled against Ruto, adding that Raila is not an investigator or prosecutor to link the DP to graft scandals.

A section of Ruto's allies is accusing the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) of allegedly using corruption to block the DP's 2022 presidential bid.

The politicians claim that the war against graft is being weaponised to punish Ruto and his allies.
