The nurses who have been demonstrating since last week were approached by street children who blocked the Kisii-Kisumu highway to prevent the nurses from entering the town.

The street children who were carrying wooden clubs and stones did not give the nurses any reason as to why they did not want them to enter Kisii town.

Fearing that the street children would hurt them, the nurses matched into Kisii police station where they demanded security from the police. To their, disappointment, the police sent them away saying that the officers at the station weren’t enough.

The nurses strike on 4th February 2019 had been termed illegal by Patrick Lumumba, Kisii county Government secretary.

"Any nursing personnel contemplating to participate in the illegal strike should be warned that they will be subjected to disciplinary action in case they leave their duty stations without authorization,” warned Patrick.

The nurses, however, went ahead with their strike despite the warning given by Mr. Patrick Lumumba.

The nurses claim to have given the county government enough time to put their programs in place and their efforts to meet The Governor have also not born fruits.
