Patrick Khalabai was reportedly battered by his wife on Monday night over domestic wrangles and gave in to the injuries on Tuesday morning.

The latter is said to have returned home drunk at about 9 pm, leading to a disagreement with his wife, a situation that would culminate in what is thought to be a fight.

Neighbours said that the woman screamed through the night, accusing the husband of attempting to rape her before their two sons intervened and broke their way in.

The two aged 28 and 25 allegedly sided with their mother and landed on their father with beatings before retreating to mind their own businesses.

The woman, according to the Citizen Digital, took part in assaulting the 55-year-old man before leaving with her sons, leaving the drunk man alone in the house.

They are said to have used crude weapons including a machete to assault him.

However, they found him in critical condition upon returning to the house on Tuesday morning, before rushing him to the hospital on a motorbike.

However, he did not make it to the health facility and was declared dead on arrival, landing the trio in trouble with villagers who wanted to lynch them.

They were saved by the policemen from the angry mob that was baying for their blood.
