The county commissioner says that they are investigating reports that some religious leaders could be aiding terror activities.

Speaking to journalists in Mandera Town on Sunday, the commissioner said those found to be abetting terror activities will be arrested and charged in court.

He said that the government is closely monitoring some religious leaders who he alleged are radicalising young people.

“We are investigating some religious leaders who we suspect could be radicalising young people to join or aid terror agents,” he said.

The county commissioner asked locals to remain vigilant and report suspicious people to security agencies.

Mandera is among counties in Northern Kenyan that are prone to terror attacks.

Three weeks ago, suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed Arabia Secondary School and killed two non-local teachers.

North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamed Birik says that security has been heightened across the region.
