For hours, Orengo was among the first dignitaries to arrive at Nyansiongo for the burial of Governor John Nyagarama's son.

While addressing mourners, Orengo said he was persuaded by the recent handshake between Raila and Uhuru Kenyatta thus his decision to collect ground intelligence.

"You know sometimes we must collect intelligence and that is why I didn't board the helicopter with Raila.

"I know Gusii people sometimes get angry fast so I had to come and check what was going on before Raila arrived," he said.

The region has voted overwhelmingly for Raila in the last decade and the norm was not different in 2017.

In some sections, Raila's decision to work with Uhuru did not for well with ODM supporters across the country.

Orengo along with Senator Moses Kajwang were among the first to take seats on the podium.
