As the clock continues to tick towards 2022, politicians are busy crafting alliances that may help them clinch the seats they intend to vie for during the next poll.

Regional alliances are slowly taking shape as each zone positions one its own to vie for the country's top seat.

Almost every region, Coast, North Eastern, Central, Rift Valley, Western, Nyanza as well as Eastern are looking forward to supporting leaders they see as prospective candidates who will, after the poll help develop their electoral zones.

So far leaders who have shown interest in vying for the presidency include Deputy President William Ruto, Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Dr Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Amason Kingi (Kilifi) Musalia Mudavadi (ANC leader) Senator Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and former Meru Governor Peter Munya.

However, of all these leaders who represent the country's different regions, there are those who are out-rightly below par in as far as the presidential race is concerned.

Coast, Western, North Eastern, Central and Eastern regions have minimal chances of producing the country's commander in chief.

Central has fewer chances as, since independence, it has produced the country's three of the four presidents and Kenyans in 2022 will be kin on ensuring the head of State comes from outside Mt Kenya. And going by the agreement President Uhuru Kenyatta signed with his deputy  William Ruto back in 2013, the zone may support the DP as a form of a thank you for his decision to support Uhuru in 2013 and 2017.

Western, Coast, North Eastern and Eastern presently have political kingpins namely Mudavadi and Wetangula, Joho and Kingi, Duale (not declared presidential interest though) and Kalonzo respectively but all of them do not command countrywide support to help elevate them to the presidency.

They may require the help of either Uhuru or opposition leader Raila Odinga to ascend to State House.
