The court heard that Daniel Oyondi attacked Regina Kinya and hacked her to death using a machete after chopping off her left hand outside Mweiga Police Station.

He later handed himself to the police at the station to escape being lynched by an irate mob, the prosecution told Justice Teresia Matheka.

In his defence, Oyondi said that he was provoked after calling the woman whom they were separated, only for his phone to be answered by a man reportedly named Ndirangu.

He dismissed claims that he was stalking the deceased, saying that he was sent to Mweiga to fetch his boss' dog food, adding that he did not surrender to the police but was nabbed behind a public toilet having a cigarette and alcohol.

He added that he is remorseful for the incident, excuses that were rubbished by the judge who ruled that he indeed killed the deceased intentionally.

“The accused was at the scene of the crime, he killed and had the intention. The offence of murder is proved,” said the judge.

The deceased succumbed to her injuries at the nearby Mary Immaculate Hospital. The court will give its sentence on June 3.
