Kibera MP Ken Okoth has congratulated opposition leader Raila Odinga for his appointment as the African Union (AU) envoy in charge of Infrastructure.

Okoth says that Raila’s appointment is good for Kenya and Africa as a region.

Speaking in Kibera on Sunday, Okoth said that Raila deserves the appointment and his experience and understanding of Africa will see him deliver.

“It is a good move. We must congratulate him after knowing that he has the potential to safely deliver on his new mandate,” he said.

Okoth said that Raila’s appointment is a good sign that Kenya is respected on the African continent.

The ODM MP, however, refuted claims that Raila’s appointment will weaken the Orange Party.

Raila’s appointment was confirmed last week by AU chairman Moussa Faki.

The ODM party leader who has since accepted the appointment and will be in charge of the Infrastructure docket at the AU.

The former Prime Minister's duties will involve improving shared infrastructure such as roads, railway and even ports.

Raila’s appointment comes seven months after his famous March 9 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
