The body of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o's mother Mama Dorcas Nyong'o on Wednesday landed in Kisumu City from Nairobi, ahead of its burial slated for Friday.

The body was accompanied by the governor, his wife Dorothy, son Junior Nyong'o and a few other relatives and received at the Kisumu International Airport by Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli.

Mama Dorcas who died in Nairobi on May 28 is expected to be laid to rest at her husband's (the governor's father) Shimei Nyong'o home in Ratta, Seme, Kisumu County.

The body was taken to St Stephens Cathedral in Milimani for a requiem mass, after which locals are expected to be given a chance to view it before the burial.

Among those expected to attend the burial is Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga among other guests.

Another requirement mass will be held in honour of the deceased at St Paul's Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Ratta on Friday, with the burial ceremony also expected to be attended by local and international figures.

It is not clear if President Uhuru Kenyatta or  Deputy President William Ruto will be in attendance.
