The most practiced form of protection among the youths is usage of condoms.

Most university female students, however, dislike using a brand of condom called Sure which is distributed free of charge in public facilities.

Ladies at Moi University revealed some of the reasons why they don’t like using the Sure brand of condoms.

“It is risky to use the Sure condoms because most of them usually burst during the intercourse. I wouldn’t want to risk getting pregnant or contracting STIs by using such condoms. It is better to use a brand of condom that you are sure is safe,” Carol Cherop, a third year student in the School of Education noted.

For Janet Wamboi, a second year student in the School of Information Science, it is the repulsive smell from the condoms that makes her dislike the brand.

“The Sure condoms have a sharp awful smell that may even make someone to vomit. So, for people who are easily nauseated like me, I’d rather go for flavored condoms like Kiss. Plus, this brand of condoms is issued for free. If you really love a lady, then you will have to buy something of a better quality,” Wamboi said.

They spoke to this writer at the varsity on Friday.

But it is not just a matter of pride and he risk, some ladies are actually allergic to the brand as it leaves them a feeling of discomfort.

“There are ladies who are left with an itching effect after using the condoms. So, to avoid the feeling of discomfort, they avoid using the Sure condoms. The condoms are also a little bit rough as compared to other brands,” Lillian Akinyi explained.

Youths especially those in universities are constantly advised to use protection while engaging in sex.

It is also recommended to use condoms of good quality to be completely safe.
