The women reveal how their sick use donkeys to travel to the health centres over long distances.

They also said they cannot access good meals due to lack of finances.

The tens of women who could only speak the local dialect narrated how malnutrition is affecting them.

“I am pregnant and I am not even sure whether this pregnancy will be successful. I lack basic prenatal care services, and even getting three meals in a day is a problem. I plead with the government and well-wishers to step in and assist us, " said Fauziah Aden, a pregnant woman in Nambaraha, Wajir South.

Donah Mahat is another frustrated pregnant woman in the area suffering from typhoid and cannot access medical services.

“I am in a dilemma because my pregnancy is giving me health problems. I am not able to eat well and my body’s health has deteriorated. I cannot access health centres because they are far and health practitioners just visit here once in a while to attend to us. I did not even know that I was suffering from typhoid until a health practitioner visited here recently and diagnosed me. I am not able to afford the medication that was prescribed for me, " said Mrs. Mahat.

The women expressed their worries and urged the area’s and county’s elected leaders to act quickly.

“This is a condition that needs quick intervention. Many pregnant women here are suffering from malnutrition and some give premature births as a result of that. The few health centres here also lack enough medicine, " said Abdi Rahm, a health practitioner in the area.
