Wanyama’s English side Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-0 to Premier League rivals Liverpool in this year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final played at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain last Saturday.

The midfielder could not do anything to save his side from defeat, as he was an unused substitute.

“We (Tottenham) tried our best and gave everything but it didn’t work out. Losing a final is very difficult to take in, it will take time,” Wanyama told Nation.

Wanyama has already joined other Harambee Stars players in camp, as they prepare for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off on June 21, in Egypt.

“My focus is now on the national team and we are preparing well which is a good place to start. In a few weeks’ time, we will be ready and can discuss our targets. It has been some time since Kenya last played at this tournament and that’s why we have to leave a positive mark,” Wanyama said.

The national side is in Group C alongside Algeria, Senegal and Tanzania.
