The 2022 Machakos gubernatorial elections will be a battle of titans.
More than five leaders have come forward to declare their interest in the seat.
Despite the fact that 2022 elections are far away, some of the leaders have already started making alliances and poaching for endorsement.
Three Wiper leaders - former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui - will battle it out for Wiper nominations.
Besides the three, Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Maliti has expressed interest in the seat as well.
Maliti's humble nature has made it easy to sell his agenda to some powerful political figures in the county who are likely to support his gubernatorial ambition in 2022.
They include:
1.Incumbent Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua
Unless the duo separates between now and the time of elections, Maliti remains to be Governor Mutua's best choice for the county's top seat in 2022.
2.Johnstone Muthama
Though it is said in hushed tones that the former Machakos Senator could be eyeing the seat, in the event that he shelves his ambition, he is likely to throw his weight behind Maliti.
He enjoys a cordial relationship with the DG who he describes as an easy person to work with and a leader who listens.
During a funeral in Matungulu last year where Maliti was present, Muthama hypothetically said that the deputy governor could have been 'sent', a statement that was full of praises for Maliti.
"I have come to realise that this man Maliti can actually be sent," said Muthama at the time.
3.Stephen Mule
The Matungulu MP on Tuesday could not cease praising Maliti for his good work in the county.
At Nguluni market told residents that Maliti would make a good governor.
He even went ahead to cite that if the deputy governor continued with his good work, he may campaign for him.
"Maliti can make a good governor. So far you haven't disappointed your people. If you continue like this, I might even support your bid, "said Mule.
