Governor Ali Korane has given locals new water pumps to help them curb the perennial problem of food insecurity in the area.

While donating ten water engines at the Garissa Farmers Training Center,  Korane revealed the farmers will now be empowered to promote food security in the county.'

'We have periodically lost our crops to drought and also floods during the rainy seasons. Many have also lost their livestock to the vicious cycles of drought and now feel the way to go is crop farming. As a county we must support them realize this worthy cause,'' said Governor Korane.

Among the groups of farmers that benefited from the donations include the Maramtu 2 farm, Furaha , Kulmis , Leheley farm, Kuno, Kasha, Alaf farm, Al kheira, Bula Nadir farm, and the Khadija Farm.

The county boss also announced revealed that plans were underway to rehabilitate Mathenge bushes to make it a profitable venture by using the wild plants to generate electricity through hydropower technology.
