Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ekerenyo grounds turned into a National Government affair after a last-minute State House call that summoned Lake Region Economic Bloc governors to Kakamega.
And Governor John Nyagarama, had to quickly adjust his programme and join President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kakamega for State celebrations, leaving his backyard Nyamira deserted.
With the Governor away, his principal deputy Amos Nyaribo was also missing in action following Hsi hospitalisation in India for the second month now.
Mr. Nyaribo, who is also serving second term, was diagnosed with a kidney problem, days after Nyagarama's long spell in US for treatment from May to July.
As most county workers kept off the venue due to absence of the governor, County Commissioner Isaiah Naikoru was left alone with few national government workers and locals.
Mr. Naikoru seized the opportunity to warn rogue chiefs over increasing trade of local brew in several parts.
It was the first time since 2013 when Governor Nyagarama and his deputy Amos Nyaribo simultaneously missed a national event.
