Though Luos are considered fearless and courageous, they too have their own fears.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

Some of the things they fear most include;

1.Curses

Curses are real among most Luos, and are better avoided when possible.They are associated with cases of madness, sicknesses, poverty and at times death.

In Nyanza, causes of curses include beating and mistreating parents and older members of the society and contravening serious taboos.

The most popular taboos are sleeping with a woman on your parents’ bed, and a parent entering his married child’s bedroom as they are considered to bring with them consequences.

2. Death

Luos have since historical times had their own mechanisms of avoiding death when possible, these include use of medicine men and at times witch-doctors known as ‘ajuoga’ in Dholuo.

Apart from individual people who fear leaving the world, it also instills fear into relatives of the sick and dying as they imagine life without the person.

3. Night-runners

They are a troublesome lot who possess satanic characteristics.

Basing on their behaviors in the villages which include throwing stones at people and kicking people’s doors, the fear is also contained in Luos who have joined the other communities in urban centers.

Though they are well-known persons at day time and freely mingle with people, they turn into something else at night, and undertake activities that might lead to injuries and disturbance.

The fear doubles when you realize that spilling their blood in the event that you manage to catch them will lead to the spirit of night running spreading into your family.
