Speaking on Friday during an event that saw him meet members of the country's motorcross team who will be representing Kenya in Zimbabwe, the head of state maintained that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that talented Kenyans help achieve that target.

"It is our responsibility to nurture, to grow and to develop that talent. This is a talent that these young men and women have. They have the opportunity to fly our flag high and we should not just look how we will be competing in Kenya. We should, our target is how shall we compete internationally, " President Uhuru said

He assured that the government would play its part in ensuring that the Kenyan flag flies in global competitions by offering its support to talented youths.

The government will work to ensure that there is a conducive environment for the youths to showcase their talent.

At the global level, Kenya has proved to be a dominant force in athletics but has struggled to make a name in other disciplines.

It participated in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cairo, Egypt and was bundled out of the group stages after losing to Algeria and Senegal, two powerhouses of African football.
