The Egyptians unleashed their best players, except Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who was nursing an injury.

Against all odds, the Harambee Stars of Kenya held their nerves and forced a 1-1 draw with the former AFCON champions.

Egypt took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal scored by Mahmoud Kahraba, who capitalised on a defensive mistake that the Stars committed.

The Stars kept pushing and were rewarded in the second half after Kashiwa Reysol forward Michael Olunga found the back of the net putting the two sides on level terms.

Egypt nearly re-established their lead in the dying minutes of the game, but Harambee Stars' back line was alert and averted all attempts by the Pharaohs.

The draw will give the Kenyan players much needed confidence as they face Togo on Monday at 7:00 p.m at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

The group includes; Egypt, Togo, Comoros and Kenya.

Egypt is seen as the greatest threat given the team's pedigree and the quality of players they have.

Francis Kimanzi, Harambee Stars head coach, is keen on ensuring Kenya qualifies for the 2021 AFCON competition in Yaounde, Cameroon.
