Speaking to members of the press on Wednesday, the outspoken politician took issue with the manner in which the police were carrying out arrests, saying that the alleged targeting of those in support of Ruto was only serving to strengthen the deputy president.

"Let me tell you, they are strengthening Ruto, some of us didn't believe in Ruto but now we have started asking ourselves questions regarding the direction the Kenyatta and Jaramogi families are taking us in (Wacha nikuambie kitu moja, wanapea Ruto nguvu nyingi. Sisi wengine tulikuwa hatuamini mambo ya Ruto lakini sasa tumeanza kuamini. Tumeanza kujiuliza hizi familia mbili za Kenyatta na Jaramogi zinaweza kutupeleka wapi)," Mr Ndile said.

Citing the arrests of Ndindi Nyoro weeks ago and that of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko last week on Friday, Mr Ndile noted that leaders who hold political office should be accorded the respect they deserve.

He said that Kenya had ushered in a new era away from the violent arrests that characterised past regimes.

"I have seen that it is not only Sonko who was arrested that way, Ndindi Nyoro and Mwangi wa Iria were also arrested that way. We are saying that we are in a new Kenya with a new Constitution and people should be accorded their dignity (Nimeona sio Sonko pekee yake, Ndindi Nyoro alishikwa hivyo, niliona Wairia Mwangi akishikwa hivyo, hiyo ni kitu tunasema Kenya ya kisasa mahali tumefika na katiba ya sasa, watu wapewe dignity ile ya kama watu)," he added.
