Over 2000 youths benefited from short entrepreneurial courses sponsored by the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) in the last financial year in Kiambu County.
County Coordinator Ms Elizabeth Muthoni said yesterday in Ndumberi that the beneficiaries were trained to enable them to engage in meaningful social economic activities.
She lauded those who had put their training into gainful activities saying they had gone a long way in raising their living standards and that of their families.
The officer also revealed that NGAAF projected to establish a bursary where over 10,000 students will be sponsored.
During the year under review, Muthoni further noted that over 200 women groups received grants to engage in value addition in goat farming,poultry, banana farming and basket making which cost sh. 20 million.
“A rescue centre was also constructed in Kiambaa sub-county which will be used by victims of gender violence drawn from the 6 courts spread out in county,” she said.
Margaret Njeri who benefitted from a hairdressing course thanked the government for the training saying it had empowered them to become
self-reliant.
Johnstone Mwangi another beneficiary from Ndumberi Youth polytechnic said he was now able to use his knowledge and skills to work as a mechanic along the Ndumberi-Githunguri road.
He said he attended to 2 to 3 customers daily and was now also training some 4 young people on the job so that they could pool their resources to give motorists in the region better service.
