A security guard attached to former President Daniel arap Moi has killed himself at Menengai General Service Unit camp in Nakuru County’s Rongai constituency.
The GSU police officer, who was serving as part of the ex-president’s elite guards, on Saturday shot himself on the head, about a kilometre away from Moi’s Kabarak home, sources say.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County police commander Koki Munga said the circumstances under which the officer killed himself are still unclear. He, however, said that investigations into the incident had begun.
The police boss pleaded with security officers, especially those in the police force, to be persevering and seek advice from their seniors before taking radical actions, like taking their lives.
The officer’s remains were taken to the Nakuru War Memorial Hospital while reports from Menengai identified the deceased only as Kemboi.
