The graft body has now reached out to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to assist it fight the vice as President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to leave behind a legacy when he leaves office in 2022.

FBI will now be tasked with probing of high profile cases across the country including sharing of intelligence information with the graft body.

The detectives from the FBI held a meeting with US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter, EACC Chairman Archbishop Eliud Wabukhala, and Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak.

The US envoy revealed that his government is ready to back Kenya in the fight against graft. He, however, did not disclose the cases the FBI will be involved in.

“We don’t have to advertise everything we do because we don’t want to educate criminals. The criminals will be caught by surprise,” he said as quoted by Nation.

McCarter said the US government will do everything possible to help Kenya fight and end graft.

"The people of Kenya deserve justice and we are going to deploy every resource. We want to win the war on corruption and that is our focus.

"We are going to use every intelligence we have to recover the assets. They need to give back what they have stolen. It can’t be that be that after stealing, people just walk away. They have to be brought to justice," he said.

On his part, Mbarak noted that the partnership between EACC and FBI will focus on asset tracing and recovery, financial investigations and intelligence management.
