In a letter signed by Owalo, who was in charge of Odinga's 2013 campaign Secretariat, Ms Nderitu is now required to facilitate removal of the former aide from the ODM register immediately.

According to him, his ideologies are no longer compatible with those being advocated by Raila Odinga's party, adding that he does not have any interest to continue being a member.

"It's with regret that I inform you my withdrawal of ODM membership immediately. My resignation is informed by the fact that my political ideologies and convictions no longer have convergence with that of ODM party.

"I therefore request that you facilitate instant removal of my name from the register of ODM party register. You urgent action will be graciously appreciated," he said in the letter.

His decision comes a day after a local paper claimed that he ditched the ODM party for Musalia Mudavadi led ANC and that he's part of the Secretariat of the former Vice President.

In 2017, Owalo accused Mr Odinga of forcefully issuing ODM certificate to Ken Okoth for Kibra. Mr Okoth, who died a fortnight ago, when on to defend the seat.

“But I’m however eagerly waiting for the results of the August 2017 Presidential elections in which I believe Raila will have no option but to come to terms with the sad reality that Malipo ni Hapa Hapa Duniani,” he said.

With Okoth's demise, Owalo could have decided to tactfully leave ODM to contest the seat on a NASA friendly party like Mudavadi's ANC since he is no longer at peace with Raila Odinga.

Orange Democratic Movement party lawyer Tony Moturi on Tuesday dismissed Owalo's latest move, arguing that it had been overtaken by events.

"He left the Party ages ago. He can't purport to leave now," said Moturi in a brief text immediately after Owalo's letter was leaked on social media.

While ODM is yet to chose a candidate, speaker Justin Muturi will by Friday declare Kibra seat vacant. Edwin Sifuna, Ben Musungu, Imra Okoth and Elizabeth Ongoro are among the favourites to get ODM ticket.
