On Saturday, members of the Nairobi County Assembly announced plans to oust Sonko, a push set to begin on Monday, only days after he was charged in court for alleged corruption.

The MCAs argued that since Sonko has been barred from accessing office, the county will be in crisis since there is no deputy governor.

Speaking on Sunday, Cherargei said the impeachment motion is a political process, noting that the fact that the house is dominated by members of the ruling Jubilee Party makes it suspicious.

"Even the county assembly of Nairobi, majority of them come from Jubilee. The impeachment process is not a legal process, it is more of a political process," he said on K24 on Sunday.

He also defended members of Sonko's legal team who have been accused of engaging in conflict of interest, given that they are legislators supposed to oversight county and national government.

He said the involvement of Senators; Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni) and Makueni MP Dan Maanzo in Sonko's defence team doesn't amount to conflict of interest as is being claimed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"I don't see any conflict of interest when senators represent Sonko," he added.
