Writing on Twitter on Thursday, the outspoken legislator said that he welcomed the move to extend the term of the committee, and lauded the Head of State for making the bold move.

The Deputy President Dr William Ruto-backing legislator held the view that the extension would create room for the report to be changed into a document that can be debated in Parliament and implemented.

He went on to add that he would throw his weight behind the BBI if it brings peace to Kenya.

"If BBI will bring peace in this country then I support it. I thank the president for the extended period given to the BBI taskforce to change the report into an implementable document that will be later debated in parliament. @StateHouseKenya @WilliamsRuto @NAssemblyKE," Didmus Barasa tweet read.

The announcement of the extension was made by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena on Thursday.

Members of the Senator Yusuf Haji-led committee will be charged with the responsibility of steering the next phase of the BBI which is public participation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the BBI report a few weeks ago at the historic Bomas of Kenya, where he urged Kenyans to keenly read the document with an open mind.
