Masinga politician Lawrence Maingi made the remarks on Thursday after solar panels installed on a borehole belonging to Inyanzaa Primary School in Kivaa were stolen by unknown people on Wednesday night.

Speaking during a phone interview, Maingi said that the borehole was benefiting the school as well as more than 100 households.

He said that its saddening for such a big project to go down the drain because of a few unscrupulous people who are not development-minded.

"I received a call this morning from the school principal Dorcas Muindi who told me the solar panels had been stolen. It's sad because the project cost a lot of money," said Maingi.

"We urge mwananchi to wake up and protect what belongs to them as it is very disheartening to donate such big projects and see them go down the drain. The community must shield them with zeal otherwise no one will be donating more projects," he added.

The politician said that those involved in the crime should know that their days are numbered, adding that the long arm of law will soon catch up with them.

"Those involved and being used must know their days are numbered and will be arrested and charged very soon. The law doesn't respect economic saboteurs," he said.

Maingi also urged elected leaders to embrace development projects regardless of who has initiated them.

"They should shun the notion that development must only come from them," he said.

The borehole was sunk by donors from the Water is Life trust in March this year.
