A police officer attached to Gigiri Police Station who went missing three weeks ago has been found dead in Thika.

The body of constable Stephen Kairu was discovered at Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary after a search by family members.

It took the family 19 days to find the body after relentlessly searching for their kin who has been missing since June 27. According to the hospital reports the constable's body was brought to the mortuary by three traffic officers.

Constable Muchami, Corporal Muktar and police driver Constable Aden collected the body and also booked the report under OB number 95/27/6/2019 at 8.55 pm then proceeded to take the body to the mortuary, reports People Daily.

According to police, the officer was found dead in the middle of the road near Kahawa West's Gulf petrol station.

His death is suspected to be a case of hit and run.

According to the Directorate of Public Prosecution, the deceased was last seen in Ruaka, where his phone was last active.

Police have also launched investigations into two men who are reported to have taken some documents from the deceased's pockets. 

The officer is said to have called his sister Miriam Wamaitha a day before his disappearance and he told her he wanted to confide something in her. 

He, however, did not reveal what he wanted to discuss with his sister.
