Ms Lornah Onchoke, an elder sister to Maximillah Onchoke, a procurement student at the Nyanza based institution, said that her sister did not want to see her dying.

According to her, she sent her a glass of milk only to find her dead minutes later. The student, who worked as part of university's Abagusii leaders, had been under life support for three years.

"My life has taken a complete turn. It shall never be the same again Henceforth I will be surviving not living. Mama we were just fine, three weeks of sleepless nights, we struggled together. We made plans that we were to work on when you are discharged. You sent me a glass of milk and when i got back you were no more.

"You didn't want me to watch you die. Ebaba, incase where you are, you'll be able to call on someone to come keep you company, I'm right here, Call me mama .This was our last picture togetherI'll leave it here so facebook will keep me reminded.Go well my little girl," she said in a Facebook text.

The 22-year-old procurement student was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis which culminated into Pulmonary Embolism, a condition that leads to blockage of arteries in the heart.

According to Dr Bosire Ombati of Nyamira Hospital, Deep Vein Thrombosis is a clot in the legs which ends up loosening and lodging in the lungs. DVTs usually cause Pulmonary Embolism.

"DVT is a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the legs, it is serious because blood clots can loosen and lodge in the lungs. Leg pain or swelling may occur, but there may be no symptoms. The Pain areas include the foot, in the calf, or leg. Its management include using compression stocking, blood thinners and management of any blood conditions that may be the activating factors.

"PE (pulmonary embolism) is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot. Most times, a pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots that travel from the legs, or rarely, other parts of the body (deep vein thrombosis or DVT). So in short PEs are caused by DVTs," he said in a text.

Ms Onchoke's death comes at the time her colleagues at Maseno University led by Abuya Abuya were mobilising for funds to enable her undergo treatment in Nairobi.
