Deputy governor Danie Chemno says the bars the strides have been made since they took over power in 2013.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, the Chemno said the bars were operating without legal permits.

“Only 956 bars out of the 4,000 bars are operating legally with permits after we put in place a liquor control board in the county 4 years ago,” he said.

The deputy governor warned bar owners whose businesses have been closed against reopening without the work permits from the county government.

“No bar owner will be condoned to continue operating without the business permits. Bars that have been closed should be reopened once the owners acquire the legal business permits,” he said.

Chemno further warned county officials in charge of issuing business permits against issuing the permits using the back door saying such officials risk losing their jobs.

He claimed that some bars that were closed have been selling drugs and other illegal substances to residents mostly youths.

The deputy governor also lauded residents for supporting the war on illicit brews across the county.
