The former devolution Cabinet Secretary argued that she is not the only one from the Mt Kenya region and other parts of the nation who meets the African Union, Special envoy. Waiguru opined that it is clear that she is influential considering the attention her meetings with Raila attract.

"The right honourable meets very many people, and you don't see that sort of reaction. They must be seeing something about me, because why is it such a big deal if a have a meeting with Raila?" she said.

On President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession debate, Waiguru said that we cannot write off other communities in the race. She noted that these communities are part of Kenya and they need to be involved in the discussion of critical issues as well. She said that anyone who wants to lead Kenya must think of how he or she will bring these communities on board.

"You cannot also ignore that there are other communities that also want at some point to feel that even if we not in leadership now, we can get into leadership in the future," she said.

The governor further asked leaders to put the interest of the people first when it comes to making critical decisions.
