A report by Andrew Ligale Commission requires that a constituency must have an average of 133,138 people.

If the findings are anything we can go by then all constituencies that will not meet the set standard will be scrapped off.

Based on the 2009 data, 290 constituencies met the requirements of the population quota.

According to article 89 of the constitution, all constituencies that do not meet the threshold will be scrapped off. The report, however, allows constituencies to have a lower or higher number.

Some of the constituencies that could be cut away are Wundanyi (58,600), Laisamis (65,669), Galole (60,866), Mwatate (75,591), Lamu West (82,698), Tetu (78,320), Lamu East (18,841), Isiolo South (43,110), Voi (86,801), Bura (82,454), Keiyo North (73,715), Mogotio (60,959), Samburu East (59,094), Mvita (75,153), Ndaragwa (92,626), North Horr (75,196), Saku (46,502) and Kilome (87,864).

Others are Vihiga (91,616), Kangema (76,988), Othaya (87,374), Budalang’i (66,723), Marakwet East (78,749), Mathioya (88,219), Mathioya (88,219), Mukurweini (83,932) and Mbeere North (89,037).

The revelation comes a time when the government has put in place all the necessary measures to ensure an accurate census report.

The government has also assured Kenyans of stringent security measures ahead of the exercise.
