The firm which has not been in operations lately on Friday announced the cancellation of all sponsorship deals it has with local sporting entities.

In a statement, it cited a challenging business environment, owing to its ongoing wrangles with the state, leading to the cancellation of its licenses.

The government has ordered for the suspension of the firm's pay bills, alongside other leading betting sites like Betin.

The announcement comes days after the firm Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri said that the current sponsorships will stand despite the push and pull.

"I will continue supporting," he was quoted by Game Yetu, a sport-only paper owned by the Standard.

Among the teams sponsored by SportPesa are Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia and their sworn rivals AFC Leopards, as well as Kariobangi Sharks Football Club.

SportPesa has been finding Gor and AFC to a tune of Sh120, 000 yearly.

The AFC Leopards leadership had initially expressed its fears saying that the team could be stranded should the firm withdraw its funding as the team largely depends on the funds.
